After the young are gone, the last generation inherits the future.
A global event known as the Reaping has killed everyone under sixty. The survivors keep cities and farms alive, but grief and dwindling time are tearing the social fabric apart. When veteran detective Mike D'Acosta finds a murder victim marked with an ominous circle-and-slash symbol, the investigation leads toward a survivalist Deadlands compound, a powerful biotech dynasty and the pristine refuge called Sweet Haven.
Mike's case is personal before he understands why. His estranged identical twin Esteban has built a hard-edged community beyond the cities, and the murder trail draws Mike back toward the brother and life he abandoned. The deeper he goes, the more the boundary between law, desperation and survival begins to break down.
At Phoenix Corporation, elderly brothers Moe and Les Chong bankroll fertility and age-reversal research involving twins and couples. Dr. Douglas Chong and Dr. Samantha McMillon promise a future for humanity, but each protects secrets that could turn hope into exploitation. Sweet Haven offers sanctuary and purpose to older survivors, yet its calm surface raises the question at the heart of the series: who gets to decide what saving humanity is worth?
